Will Saxton — The Sun Key

The Sun Key

Will Saxton designed the 20 x 30 foot mural in front of the structures salon on Carroll Creek and now turns to a solar themed design for this key. His statement on public art reads: "All art should be public. Art is a form of speech and speech should be free for anyone. To keep art private is to hide the treasure of our society. The public's interpretation of art creates part of the value of the art. Art that is privately owned gains value in the public eye and in turn creates value for the community. The open and accepting atmosphere among the galleries downtown extend Frederick's private art into the public view. The public murals and sculptures downtown signify that Frederick values its arts and artists. Artists have a social responsibility to reflect the society they are producing art for while raising awareness of the possible and generating exciting thoughts in the art viewers' minds." Frederick is home to BP Solar, one of the worlds leading solar companies and a key to Frederick's economy. Renewable energy is a key to Frederick's and the world's future! Mr. Saxton's awards include the 2006 Audience Choice Award at the 72 film Festival, the 2007 Addy award for word done for ID Makers and the 2007 Bronze Tally award for work done for High Rock Interactive.
